Sean Adams, SingleOps
Sean Adams is an Account Executive with SingleOps, a software company dedicated to helping growing tree care businesses dominate. Before his time at SingleOps, Sean owned a landscape and tree care company in southern New Jersey. Having developed a unique business perspective that focused on technology and documented systems, Sean was eventually able to sell his business. Exiting his company allowed Sean to dedicate his time to what he is most passionate about, helping green industry companies succeed. Sean draws from his time as a business owner, helping tree care business owners adopt simple technology-infused best practices to streamline their operations and achieve massive scale.

Beth Brantley, Bartlett Tree Laboratory Northeast
Beth is a Technical Support Specialist with Bartlett Tree Experts. Her key areas of responsibility include diagnostic support, research and public education in arboriculture, with emphasis in tree risk assessment, veteran trees, and wood decay. Beth has a PhD in Plant Pathology from The Pennsylvania State University. She taught forestry and related courses for more than 20 years at Penn State Mont Alto prior to joining Bartlett Tree Experts in June of 2019.

Sgt. Karl Brenon, NYS Troopers
Sargent Karl Brenon has served 27 years as a Trooper, involved in commercial vehicle enforcement for over 15 years. His training includes North American Standard Truck Inspection; Basic Hazardous Materials Inspection; Cargo Inspection; Enhanced Radioactive Materials Inspection; and Scales Repair and Maintenance.

Rich Cartier, Certified Arborist, Rainbow Treecare Scientific Advancements
Rich is currently the Northeast Territory Manager for Rainbow Treecare Scientific Advancements. He is responsible for sales and distribution of Rainbow products throughout the northeastern United States and training on the safe and effective use of all products and equipment as well as pest and disease identification and diagnosis.

Rich has a strong knowledge of regional plant material as well as the associated insects, diseases, and treatment methods and is committed to practicing PHC in a safe and effective manner. He is a Massachusetts Certified Arborist, Connecticut Licensed Arborist and an ISA Certified Arborist.

Lou Hicks, Certified Arborist, Morbark, LLC
Certified Arborist Lou Hicks is currently a Territory Manager for the Tree Care Products Division at Morbark, LLC and has more than 15 years in the tree care industry. Since joining Morbark in 2014, Lou has conducted several TCIA Chipper Operator Specialist Workshops and Chipper Operation and Maintenance trainings throughout the Northeast. His focus on safety and proper equipment handling proves to be an asset to organizations small and large. Lou brings expertise from several areas of the tree care industry, including the following certifications and licenses: NJ Licensed Tree Expert, International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Certified Arborist, NJ Licensed Commercial Pesticide Applicator Certification Categories 3A, 3B and 13 and NJ Certified Fertilizer Applicator.

Jordan Jozak, Certified Arborist, CTSP, Tree Care of NY
Jordan is the Business Manager of Tree Care of New York, a line clearance contractor in the Northeast that’s annually grown over 200%. Contributing to his professional development, he’s a graduate of a Natural Resources vocational program and currently finishing his MBA at the University of Buffalo. Before his current role, he’s worked in residential tree care, utility arboriculture, and as a consulting utility forester. Jordan holds his ISA Certified Arborist, Utility Specialist, and CTSP certifications.

He currently serves on the Cattaraugus-Allegheny BOCES Board of Education as an educational advisor for vocational programs throughout New York State, as lead chairman of the UAA’s Workforce Retention Taskforce, and sits on numerous committees that support his passion of finding an innovative solution to the skilled trades deficit our industry faces.

Phillip Kelley, Certified Arborist, North American Training Solutions
Phillip is a Lead Instructor for NATS, a position he has held since 2009. In addition to his work with NATS, Phillip is a contract climber and owner of Samara Tree Preservation and Training based in Washington state. He serves as the head judge of the North American Tree Climbing Championship (2014-present) and the Aerial Rescue International Tree Climbing Championship (2013-present), and served as the head technician of the Georgia Arborist Association Tree Climbing Championship (2009-2013).

Don Nelson, NYS DEC
Don has been employed by the NYS DEC since 2000, and has served in his current position as Pesticide Control Specialist 2 since 2007. His duties include: Regional supervising PCS, in charge of supervision of Regional PCS staff; review and coordinate regional compliance and enforcement activities and provide outreach with regard to New York State Laws and Regulations dealing with pesticides. In 2014, NYSA presented Don with the Research Award which recognized his important work to foster improvement in the arboricultural industry.

Emelie Swackhamer, Penn State Extension
Emelie is a Horticulture Extension Educator at the Montgomery County Extension office. She holds a B.S. degree in Plant Science from The Pennsylvania State University and a M.S. in Plant Pathology from the North Carolina State University.

Her programs focus on the green industry including diagnosis of plant problems, plant identification and selection, estimating and bidding for landscape installation, green infrastructure and pesticide safety education. She is serving as the team leader for green industry extension programming.

Emelie is also a source of information and programming on the new invasive insect Lycorma delicatula, the spotted lanternfly.

Fran Reidy, Certified Arborist, Dryad Tree & Shrub Diagnostics, LLC
Fran is a NYSA member, an ISA Certified Arborist® and owner/operator of Dryad Tree & Shrub Diagnostics in East Islip. She focuses her business on developing Plant Health Maintenance (PHM), which is a non-pesticide pest program for landscapes and community supported agriculture (CSAs). In addition, Fran is an ASCA consulting arborist, and works for many New York City park systems such as Brooklyn Bridge Park, where she trains and teaches its staff about tree and plant care issues. She also specializes in unique and European pruning styles, as seen at the MET Cloisters in north Manhattan, a Medieval museum collection that includes cloistered gardens.

Fran was named a “True Professional of Arboriculture™” by the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) in 2018. This award honors arborists and tree care professionals for their positive impact on the industry and in their communities.
